It has a clean connection for 9-volt battery back up - not tested. Volume is clean with no static. I tested this and it all works - the radio cassette player, both alarm 1/2 snooze button. The second wire is antenna - radio works both am and fm.
The only issue I noticed is that fast forward works but it doesn't seem terribly. Model 3845 mcl shipped carefully in bubble wrap. Soundesign am fm stereo cassette player alarm clock radio tested - works super cool.
